Being an athlete, Biles naturally tries to eat as healthy as she can. This means avoiding junk food most of the time, and avoiding snacking. She tells Women's Health that she doesn't like to snack all that much, but when she does, she likes to enjoy a piece of fruit. "I don't really snack too too much because I'm always at the gym, but if I do, I try to snack on some fruit."
When it comes to food, Biles says that she likes to both cook and order out. She also says that she isn't a picky eater at all, and loves trying new foods and cuisines. She tells Women's Health that she likes to support local restaurants when she orders out. "I really like home restaurants that are in the area because I feel like I get to be closer with them. I'm not picky. I'll try any new restaurant."
Biles tells Women's Health that sleep is a big priority for her. She says that she often goes to bed early, especially since she often wakes up early to go to the gym. "Earlier than 10:30 p.m. is my target time," Biles says. "I'm usually in bed by 9:30 p.m., so I'm asleep before then."
Biles has been open about her struggles with her mental health. She notably bowed out of competing in several events in last year's 2021 Olympic gymnastics competitions. Biles' decision received massive praise from celebrities and politicians alike. "I definitely feel like it's been a relief, but it's not easy to go through it," Biles said on the Today show. "Because I try to be strong not only for other people but also myself, but sometimes there are weaknesses in strength and that's OK, and it's OK not to be OK, and I've taught myself that."
Biles told the Associated Press that she is learning to put herself first and focus on herself. After stepping away from competing, she says that she is learning to find an identity outside of being a US gymnast. "We also have to focus on ourselves, because at the end of the day, we're human, too," she says. "While there are many strategies to manage stress and anxiety, Kristin Lothman, a mind-body counselor with Mayo Clinic's Department of Integrative Medicine and Health, says intentionally setting aside time to be quiet and practice self-care is a practice that can reap significant benefits," says the Mayo Clinic: "I recommend developing a daily self-care practice. It is important to take care of ourselves so that we can show up more powerfully in our own lives and for the people we love."
